[Wednesday Wisdom] : Ask A Manager by Alison Green
Management guru Alison Green's latest book Ask A Manager is an encyclopedia of practical solutions to commonly faced work problems. Along with explaining the underlying principles in each situation, Green provides sample dialogues that one can use to navigate his/her way out of challenging instances in the workplace. It's a book that everybody, regardless of their place in the organizational hierarchy, can read and benefit from.
In Green's blog, she was a proponent of radical candor in the workplace and this book definitely reflects that. In the various chapters of the book, she covers topics such as dealing with micromanagers, unhappy bosses, lying colleagues, etc. and teaches readers how to pry themselves out of such sticky situations by saying the right things.
Green's advice is entertaining and the listicle-like nature of the writing makes it easy to read and absorb. By showing readers it's possible to face vexing situations with grace, Ask A Manager is a useful playbook to navigate the work landscape and emerge stronger than before.
